Ssssh! Don't tell them I'm hiding!
The Citizen Soapbox is an area where we throw out topics to the users of Citizen Game. When we record the podcast on Sunday night we take the previous week’s Soapbox answers and use them in our own discussions. We think it’s a great way of involving you guys  in our stupid arguments!

The Setup:
e3 is done and dusted for another year (at least for us internet people) and you’ve had a few days to stew over the announcements. Each year there is a standout conference or particularly exciting peice of news released, but these change from person to person. So…

The Questions
What’s you’re favourite announcement of e3 2010?
Who had the best conference?
What was the worst game of e3 2010?
Was there anything you’re dissapointed didn’t turn up?

Ssssh! Don't tell them I'm hiding!

Scratch what I said, the worst thing at E3 was Leigh Alexander on the Giant Bombcast. She was drunk as shit (again), and interrupted everyone(again). She continually cited that listeners dislike her because she’s a girl, refusing to believe that she’s just annoying as hell. Now, she is using her Twitter account, insulting anyone who criticizes her.

    a) Though I wasn’t one of the fans demanding it, the new Kid Icarus game cemented the fact the Nintendo were really out to please their fans (finally) this year.

    b) Nintendo. Hands down.

    c) Wii Party maybe? Least inspired name for a Wii game ever and looking just like Mario Party without Mario and co.

    d) Software for the Kinect that regular or “hardcore” gamers will care about. I ain’t buying it for fitness games and Ninten-tigers.

-Konami’s entire presentation was the best part of E3. I’m pretty sure that Tamoor will describe this in full but God, they had the creator of DDR show off his new dance game, and his English sounded like a cross between Stephen Hawkings and a mentally disabled person.
-I really enjoyed Bulletstorm, except for all the shit dialogue about fried chicken and dicks.
-I’m going to go out on a big limb here and say that I really disliked the Sony Press Conference. I don’t see myself ever buying a Sony Move because it is basically a better version of the Wii Mote. Showing the different ads for the PSP was idiotic and I hate Kevin Butler. Good job video game press, you are getting duped by a marketing campaign. Twisted Metal games haven’t been good in years and the only real announcement that I thought was great was Portal 2, which is my game of the show.

I’ve been keeping a weather eye on the e3 horizon in between trips to the kettle whilst at work.

    Fave announcement:

Might be a bit behind on this one but the multi-platform support for onLive. I soooo want this to work. To hell with all this 3D lark and the need to buy yet MORE new hardware. A man has only so much living room! If it gets released sensibly and is stable I can see it breathing new life into desktop gaming.

    Best conference:

Haven’t had time to watch the full things really, what I’ve heard from Sony was pretty good and more Zelda can only be good as my taste goes.

    Worst game:

Not a game, but still, a little underwhelmed by Kinect. It’s like the 3rd or 4th console camera device we’ve had by now? No-one seems to have learnt that they need some KILLER software to get people on-board and get round that problem of more cash for non-essential peripherals. We all know gaming’s expensive but I think we should be able to enjoy the best of our hardware ‘out-of-the-box’. Plus, what Tamoor said about the dog walking infront of you when you’re mid-flow and the camera shouts ‘What the **** is that!?’. Amusing, but not good gaming I fear.

    Disappointments:

Hard to be disappointed when we’ve just had all this news to soak up and chew over for the next 6 months or so. Unless there was a Half-Life easter egg somewhere I’ve missed, I’ll have plenty to enjoy!

Overall, Microsoft impressed me the least, but Sony dissapointed me the most, even though they did have a lot of very nice games on show.
Nintendo havewalked away with this years E3 the new games on the Wii, and the 3DS really blew me away. If this was a contest, I would rate the conferences as follows, from worst to best:

    3. Microsoft – massive natal fails. Especially when the hurdling didn’t work. Watching a girl molest a tiger, then seeing it disappear off the left hand side of the screen, only to instantly reappear on the right was entertaining, but it looked like a really shite game. The horribly awkward voice chat conversation did them no favours, as did the kinect demonstrators going ‘Woo! Yeah! So Much Fun!’ etc… New slim console looked impressive though. Great to see more of Black Ops, which I think will be at least as good as MW2.

    2. Sony – the one I was looking forward to most. Hearing a bit of news on the new PSN was alright, but hearing that you would get Wipeout HD free when you signed up pissed me off, because I already have it! Where is our cloud storage? Where is our cross game chat? Where is our enhanced and more reliable connectivity? Some good games on display though, FF14 and Infamous2 were highlights for me. Glad to hear GT5 is coming soon, but the reviews and demos will do the talking for that.

    1. Nintendo – EPIC! The whole thing made me want to go out and buy a Wii and a 3DS, as soon as possible! Goldeneye didn’t look too great though, I replayed the original last week, and I think we may have been looking back on it with rose-tinted specs. Bringing back Mickey, Kirby and Donkey Kong Country though… AWESOME! Especially Donkey Kong. The 3DS looked incredible, especially the ability to take 3D pictures and watch 3D films. I can see me getting one of them if the 3D actually works.

I was very pissed off with Gamespot, with the website failing to load, and the live streams constantly buffering, E3 seemed completely break their site! Once again one of your competitors have chosen they can’t deliver when it counts.

    What’s you’re favourite announcement of e3 2010?

That’s difficult, as there wasn’t much there that I wasn’t already expecting. MGS Rising looks pretty badass, as does Killzone 3. Game of the show was LBP2 though. Love the first game, still play it despite it being a launch title. Just so much to do in it!

    Who had the best conference?

Having not seen the Nintendo one, missed it due to college, I’ll go for Sony. Loads of stuff I wanted and they didn’t do what Microsoft did. That is to say, they didn’t shout “Hey look at us, we copied the Wii but slightly better!”

What was the worst game of e3 2010?

Worst game? I can’t call any of the Kinect stuff a game, so I’ll go for Gears 3. Never liked it much anyway, and this looks like more of the same.

Was there anything you’re dissapointed didn’t turn up?

Resistance 3, Zone of the Enders 3 (it has to happen!) and The Last Guardian.

Favourite announcement was Portal 2 for PS3. I’ll be playing the game itself on PC, but it was interesting to watch Gabe Newell try to apologise to Sony! I though the Sony conference was the most entertaining to watch, but Nintendo’s new game announcements were a bit more exciting.

I couldn’t name one “worst game” but pretty much all of the Kinect stuff looks like exactly the sort of thing I’m not interested in at all, except for Child of Eden.

My big disappointment is the general lack of big shocks or big new game announcements. Would have been nice to have a Final Fantasy VII remake too, but I think I’m living in a dream world with those thoughts!

in the black ops demo you could see him purposely pointing the center of the camera at certain points of interests like showing that gore is back, and gow 3 just seemed like lost planet 2.
