The Citizen Soapbox is an area where we throw out topics to the users of Citizen Game. When we record the podcast on Sunday night we take the previous week’s Soapbox answers and use them in our own discussions. We think it’s a great way of involving you guys  in our stupid arguments!

The Setup:
As of 5pm today, football season is officially over, college students around the UK are finishing their final exams, and this morning I was woken up by the sun burning my exposed feet. Summertime is just around the corrner! If your a student that means 2-3 months of sweet fuck-all to do, and even working folk get to enjoy longer days and earlier mornings. But will the good weather make you feel guilty enough to put down the pad untill Autumn? At least for a little while?

The Questions
Will you spent as much, more or less time playing video games over the summer months?
Do you feel guilty about gaming too much over the summer?

I’ll have to resist the Warcraft. Haven’t played in months, but if Cataclysm comes out, it’ll all be over. Must resist.

On a more positive note, the wish to stay away from Warcraft will justify me buying Red Dead and others…you know, just to keep me away from the PC.

And now Kaz mentions it, I might return to Deus Ex. Played it when I was a wee young’un and never completed it.

I’ve just completed Heavy Rain and I’m going to do a re-run of it soon. Fantastic game.

After that though, I will be able to back to Final Fantasy 13!
I’m only 10 hours, so I will expect it will take me a long while to complete it.

Speaking of JRPGs, I might go back to the the PS2 and try to complete Persona 3 and then play Persona 4, which is still shrink wrapped. Probably wishful thinking though.

I also plan to go back on playing The Orange Box, which I haven’t completed any of the games yet. I so need to complete Portal!

And finally, I’ll probably play the two Deus Ex games on the PC, which I bought them back when STEAM were selling them for a bargain £3.

I would like to see what’s the fuss is with Deus Ex is all about, as it’s claimed as the best PC game of all time by PC gamer magazine.

    Busy gaming summer indeed.

As I work in education, and I am getting married on the first day of the Summer holidays, I somehow doubt my Summer will contain much time for gaming. I am trying to cram in all the time I can right now. Getting married also means I am skint and can’t afford many new games. The thought that I may not get my hands on Red Dead Redemption until as late as October terrifies me.

Considering for the last month I’ve been sleeping 4-5 hour nights with the crazy amount of projects and tests and applying for jobs I look forward to wasting every spare minute of the summersitting around playing games I bought but havnt had time to open the wrapper.

Unless anyone knows of any games programming jobs :D

    Eh.
There are really great games coming out like Red Dead or Crackdown 2 that I’m itching to play; but I got other stuff to do over the summer too like working at the grocery store, studying for SATs, and playing some Ultimate Frisbee with friends. So on one hand I will be staying up much later playing games but I probably won’t be playing every day. But when Secret of Monkey Island 2 comes out, I will be locked away playing that like I did with the first.

Can’t find work so unless I’m out looking for work or getting drunk I’ll either be sleeping or playing games!

Going to play a lot of WoW and red dead over the summer months.

Summer never really stops me playing games, it just changes the games i play.

Bbq’s and house parties mean Singstar and Rockband will become two of my most played games.

The biggest obstacle in the way of my gaming this summer is the World Cup but this could just mean i play even more Fifa.

You guys may remember I stopped playing games for a large chunk of January and February. It was like when I quit Warcraft, suddenly I was back playing football and runnin and I’ve since lost 2 stone of weight.

I’ll probably be playing less games anyway, especially as the evenings are bright and there is so much to do in London.

I’ll certainly be filling my late-evening hours playing shooters (Killing Floor, Left4Dead, Counter-Strike) with my friends.

My level of gaming is pretty consistent over the summer and I never feel guilty about it. There are so many great games coming are way this summer too, including Super Mario Galaxy 2, Crackdown 2 and Sonic the Hedgehog 4. I certainly won’t feel guilty about staying in to play those!
