So What Exactly is Coming Out for the Wii U?

Despite some solid looking games there were scant few surprises during Nintendo’s E3-dedicated Direct broadcast this past week. With three key Wii U titles not due until 2014 is the console’s release schedule going to remain sparse throughout 2013?
The answer, it would seem, is no.
From the second half of June until the end of 2013, the Wii U will be home to twelve console exclusives. Twelve exclusives in six and a half months; that’s a healthy number no matter which way you look at it.
The full list is below, including what we know is coming in 2014 and beyond.
2013
Game and Wario: 28th June
New Super Luigi U (retail): 26th July
Pikmin 3: 26th July
The Wonderful 101: 15th September
Sonic Lost World*: 13th October
The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD: October 2013
Wii Party: October
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze: November
Super Mario 3D World: December
Wii Fit U: December
Sonic & Mario at the Olympic Winter Games Sochi 2014: Q4
Scribblenauts Unmasked*: Q3/Q4
2014
Mario Kart 8
Bayonetta 2
Super Smash Bros*
New Monolith Software title (codenamed ‘X’)
TBD
The Legend of Zelda U (working title)
Art Academy
* = also coming to Nintendo 3DS
Keep in mind that this list doesn’t include third party multi-platform releases such as Rayman Legends, Watch_Dogs and Batman: Arkham Origins nor eShop and Virtual Console downloadable releases. So that’s at least a dozen more titles for Wii U owners to get stuck into.
Quantity doesn’t necessarily equal quality of course – only time will tell on that front. But personally I’m intending to buy four of the 2013 games on this list, maybe more depending on reviews and word of mouth. It’ll be nice to own more Wii U games than I can count on a single hand.
Good shout, I’ll add that. It slipped my mind since it wasn’t at E3 in earnest and barely referenced on Nintendo’s own site.
You forgot Monolith Soft’s X, coming in 2014
Thanks for the update on Deus Ex Director’s Cut, Kaihaku. I’ll update the article. 12 exclusives is still pretty awesome though.
I’m still fuming at Square Enix. I don’t care about exclusivity but I do care that Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director’s Cut was set to be released in May and that they delayed it so that the game could be ported to other systems. The same thing happened with Rayman Legends. It’s fine to release games for other systems but making Wii U owners wait unnecessarily is a great way to burn bridges.
