Bound Together
Last week, Nintendo’s criminally under-supported RPG classic Earthbound finally made it to European shores.
One day I’d like to thoroughly detail the fascinating and eclectic soundtracks of the three games in the Earthbound/Mother series via Musical Showcase (I’ve sort of already made a start). In the meantime, here’s a superb fan-made tribute album named Bound Together.
Provided by more than twenty artists including well-known remixers like Dale North and The OneUps, its 48 tracks cover almost every composition from Earthbound (a.k.a. Mother 2 in Japan).
Stylistically, it hits pretty much all the right bases and genres, plus a few unexpected ones, from the game’s dark and trippy tracks through to it’s sentimental and upbeat ones.
Frankly, Bound Together puts most of Nintendo’s own soundtrack albums to shame. It’s one of the finest fan productions I’ve ever experienced and one of the few game albums I continue to dip back into years after the fact. It’s truly a testament to the talent and dedication of the legion of long-suffering Western Earthbound/Mother fans.
As is the case for every fan-made album it’s completely free to own. If you’ve ever enjoyed Earthbound or its music then there’s absolutely no reason not to give it a listen.
