While it took many years for the medium to become a widely accepted and understood form of entertainment, video games have been ingrained in the popular consciousness for decades.

Naturally, this has led to crossovers in other popular entertainment mediums. Through lyrical references, sampled sound effects, emulated instrumentation and even dedicated tributes it’s possible to track the presence of video games in popular music as early as the late 1970s.

To highlight this, we’re inducting the six most commercially successful instances of video games and pop music coming together into our Musical Showcase vault.

Just remember, popularity is not always synonymous with quality…

Day One: Computer Game

Day Two: Pac-Man Fever

Day Three: Super Mario Land

Day Four: Tetris

Day Five: Eyes on Me

Day Six: Hikari
